The Collaborative Literacy Learning Communities (CLLC) Project, which commenced in 2009, is a contemporary learning initiative designed for literacy improvement for students in the middle years (5-8). CLLC emphasizes improvement processes such as innovation, collaboration and differentiation and is responsive to the learning needs of the participating teachers.

Professional learning in the CLLC Project focuses on:

  • the increasing specialisation (complexity and technicality) of literacy in years 5–8 curriculum discipline areas
  • inquiry learning processes to accelerate and support the building of a professional learning culture
  • teaching informed by contemporary understandings of literacies such as multimodality
  • pedagogy that is enacted through and energised by an assessment for learning focus.
